Apr. 24—This is the final week of the regular season for CIF-Southern Section teams. Playoff pairings will be released May 1.

In the L.A. City Section, the regular season extends into mid-May.

1. Torrance 20-3

The Tartars are closing in on the outright Pioneer League title. They're 9-1 heading into this week's series against South (Tuesday on road, Thursday at home). Torrance has won six consecutive games.

2. Palos Verdes 16-9

The Sea Kings begin the final week with a one-game lead over Mira Costa and Redondo. PV split last week's series with Culver City and that's left the Mustangs and Sea Hawks within striking distance. PV has a tough series with rival Peninsula this week (Tuesday on road, Thursday at home).

3. South Torrance 16-8

South split its series last week with El Segundo. The Spartans kicked off the final week with a make-up game against Lawndale and then the big series against the league-leading Tartars.

4. West Torrance 16-6

The Warriors had a busy week. They went 3-1 in a six-day span with wins over Peninsula, Lawndale and Redondo. The loss came against Valencia. This week, they're facing North. Both teams are 6-4 in the Pioneer League. West hosts North Tuesday and visits Thursday.

5. Redondo 12-12

Redondo split their series with Peninsula last week. The Sea Hawks begin the final week tied with Mira Costa for second place in the Bay League, one game behind first-place Palos Verdes. Redondo visits Mira Costa Tuesday and hosts the Mustangs Thursday.

6. Mira Costa 11-15

The Mustangs snapped a five-game losing streak Friday defeating Santa Monica 10-4. That win earned a split in that Bay League series and sets up the Mustangs for this week's showdown series against Redondo.

7. Carson 11-8-1

After dropping a tournament game against LB Millikan, the Colts took care of Marine League business with a sweep of Rancho Dominguez (8-1, 10-0). Carson faces Gardena (home Tuesday, road Thursday) in Marine League this week and visits Venice Wednesday.

8. Bishop Montgomery 16-6

The Knights returned to Camino Real League play last week and swept Salesian (12-1 and 5-0). Cole Blumenthal pitched a five-hit shutout with eight strikeouts in the 5-0 win. The Knights are the top-ranked team in the CIF-SS Division 5 poll.

9. El Segundo 13-11

The Eagles split last week's series with South. They begin the final week at 5-5 in the Pioneer League and will face Lawndale with a chance to get to 7-5 and then see where that leaves them in the mix with North, West and South.

10. Narbonne 12-9-1

The Gauchos swept San Pedro in Marine League play last week. This week they're the favorites to record another sweep as they face Rancho Dominguez (Tuesday at home, Thursday on the road).
