No. 1 Seton Hall Prep 1, Bloomfield 0

Joaquin Niehenke buried a second-half penalty kick to push top-seeded and No. 1 in the NJ.com Top 20, Seton Hall Prep, to a 1-0 win over 16th-seeded Bloomfield, in the first round of the Essex County Tournament, in West Orange.

The Pirates (12-2) will face eighth-seeded Montclair Kimberley in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Ray Bonanno made two saves to earn the shutout.

Freshman Alex Leon made nine saves for Bloomfield (4-10)

The penalty shot came with 28:46 left in play.

Montclair Kimberley 2, Millburn 1

Nitai Jiminez-Stanley and Mikey Rallatos each scored as eighth-seeded Montclair Kimberley edged out a 2-1 win over ninth-seed Millburn in the first round of the Essex County Tournament in Montclair.

MKA (8-5) will face top-seeded and No. 1 in the NJ.com Top 20 Seton Hall Prep in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Alex Provost made eight saves in the win.

The Millers fell to 6-7.

Livingston 1, Verona 0

Chris Cane netted an overtime goal to lift fifth-seeded Livingston to a 1-0 victory over 12th-seeded Verona in the first round of the Essex County Tournament, in Livingston.

Livingston (5-4-1) will take on fourth-seeded Montclair in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Cane scored in the first overtime off an assist by Charlie Grossman.

Jacob Hans made six saves to earn the shutout.

Verona fell to 5-6.

No. 3 West Orange 3, Barringer 0

Jack Dvorin tallied a goal and two assists to lead third-seeded West Orange to a 3-0 win over 14th-seeded Barringer in the first round of the Essex County Tournament, in West Orange.

West Orange (11-2) will host sixth-seeded Columbia in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Atticus LaFargue also scored in the win, while Justin Scavalla made five saves to earn the shutout.

Johnny Miranda made 12 saves for Barringer (10-1).

Montclair 3, Cedar Grove 1

Nicholas Carillo, Kyle Brandon and Louis Flagel each scored to push fourth-seeded Montclair to a 3-1 win over 13th-seeded Cedar Grove in the first round of the Essex County Tournament, in Montclair.

Montclair (7-4-2) will face fifth-seeded Livingston in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Cedar Grove fell to 4-9.

Columbia 3, Glen Ridge 0

Jack Niles scored twice to push sixth-seeded Columbia to a 3-0 win over 11th-seeded Glen Ridge in the first round of the Essex County Tournament, in Maplewood.

Columbia (7-6) will face third-seeded West Orange in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Cyrus Merriweather added on a goal and an assist to the win.

Sumner Verdun made four saves for the shutout.

Glen RIdge fell to 5-7-1.

Newark East Side 5, Irvington 1

Guilherme Mourao recorded a goal and an assist as second-seeded Newark East Side rolled to a 5-1 win over 15th-seeded Irvington in the first round of the Essex County Tournament, in Newark.

Newark East Side (10-1) will face seventh-seeded Newark Academy in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Christopher Cruz added on a goal and an assist while Guilherme Pardinho, Raone Soares Da Silva, and Nicholas Vales also scored.

Walter Tajeda recorded seven saves for Irvington (4-10-1).

Newark Academy 1, West Essex 0

Seventh-seeded Newark Academy took a 1-0 victory over 10th-seeded West Essex in the first round of the Essex County Tournament in Livingston.

The Minutemen (6-2-2) will face second-seeded Newark East Side in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

West Essex fell to 5-8 on the season.
