It's been a while since HBO news satire host John Oliver has weighed in on something related to San Francisco, but on the most recent episode of "Last Week Tonight" he shouted out one of the Bay Area's most iconic figures: the Pixar lamp Luxo.

"I'm still coming to you from this blank void, which I actually share with the Pixar lamp. It says if I try to leave, it'll crush me like the letter 'I,' and I can't tell how scared and or horny I should be."

The reference noted how each of Pixar's films start with the lamp stomping on the "I" from the Pixar logo. Luxo Jr. first made an appearance in one of director John Lasseter's short films in 1986 and is one of the most notable characters in the company's history; their Emeryville campus even has an oversized sculpture of it. In that film, two lamps, named Luxo Jr. and Luxo Sr., crush a multicolored ball, another Pixar staple.

Oliver has never weighed in on the Bay Area's premiere animation studio before (to our knowledge), but he has passed judgement on San Francisco's premiere terrible holiday tradition: SantaCon.

Oliver went on to do short segments on Prince Philip's death, followed by a look at Matt Gaetz's sex scandal and a longer piece on immigration reform. His main feature of the episode revolved around assisted living communities. The introduction featuring Luxo isn't available on YouTube, but watch the episode's extended investigation into long-term elder care below.
