A track meet was held at Saucon Valley Friday night and a football game broke out, with the host Panthers coming from behind to edge Palmerton, 42-41, in a Colonial League contest.

Palmerton owned a 28-14 halftime lead before Saucon Valley came storming back behind quarterback Dante Mahaffey with three third-quarter touchdowns to forge a 35-all tie in the third quarter.

The Blue Bombers would take two more leads, but Saucon Valley responded each time. A missed extra point after Palmerton’s final touchdown would prove to be costly as Mahaffey then hit Alexander Magnotta with a 24-yard pass to tie it and Jacob Christopher’s extra point put the Panthers ahead with 5:54 to play.

From there, the Panthers' defense took over, first stopping Palmerton on downs, then getting an interception by Tyler Pfizenmayer in the closing seconds to seal it.

Mahaffey finished with 10 completions in 15 attempts for 164 yards and four TD passes. He added 14 carries for 157 yards and two more scores to account for all six Saucon Valley touchdowns.

In another Colonial League game, defense ruled the night as Wilson shut out host Bangor, 14-0. Cayden Stem helped the Warriors put the game away by connecting with Zakai Hendricks on a long touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to set the final score.

Eatern Pennsylvania Conference

Parkland rumbled to a 40-0 halftime lead over Dieruff and coasted with a running clock the rest of the way to a 49-0 decision at J. Birney Crum Stadium.

At East Stroudsburg South, the Little Brown Jug went to the host Cavaliers, who romped to a 69-7 victory over Stroudsburg.

Pocono Mountain West was a 21-7 winner over Pleasant Valley.

Schuylkill League

Pine Grove romped over visiting Panther Valley, 49-6, Tri-Valley won by an almost identical score over Marian Catholic, 47-7; and Mahanoy Area was a 42-27 winner over Nativity behind 245 rushing yards and three TDs by Ben Terry.

Suburban One Continental

Quakertown trounced Hatboro-Horsham, 48-0, to run its record to 3-1.

PAC

Ethan Kohler ran for a touchdown and passed for another to lead Perkiomen Valley past Boyertown, 14-6.

In another Pioneer Conference game, Upper Perkiomen exploded for four first-half touchdowns, including three by Logan Simmon, and held on for a 31-14 win over Owen J. Roberts.

More to come.
