Michigan's top 25 boys high school basketball rankings for Dec. 24

Happy holidays to all of our readers. Today, we give the gift of the final top 25 boys basketball rankings of the 2019 calendar year. This week, the rankings have shaken up a bit, including a new team in the top spot while Grand Rapids Christian pushes its way through the rankings.

This will be MLive’s final top 25 boys basketball rankings for 2019 and they will return on Jan. 7.

25. Waterford Mott (0-1)

Division 1

Previous rank: 23

Mott has not played since its opening season loss to Ann Arbor Huron. It didn't have star forward Isaiah Jackson in that game and they'll need him against Detroit Martin Luther King on Friday.

24. Otsego (4-1)

Division 2

Previous rank: 25

After double-digit wins against Vicksburg and South Haven last week, the Bulldogs will face Marshall on Monday.

23. Macomb Dakota (2-1)

Division 1

Previous rank: 24

Dakota beat Grosse Pointe South and Romeo last week and sets its sights toward a matchup with Brother Rice on Monday at the Motor City Roundball Classic.

22. Williamston (4-1)

Division 2

Previous rank: 22

Williamston has won four straight, with a 67-53 win over Lansing Catholic and an 84-51 win over Fowlerville last week. The Hornets are off until Jan. 3 when they host Richland Gull Lake.

21. Mt. Pleasant (3-0)

Division 1

Previous rank: 21

After a 66-18 win over Bay City Central, Mt. Pleasant has won its first three games by an average of 33 points. Mt. Pleasant won't play again until Jan. 3 against Essexville Garber.

20. Flint Beecher (2-1)

Division 3

Previous rank: 20

Beecher bounced back from its season-opening loss to Ferndale with an 87-32 win over Burton Atherton and an 88-21 win over Morrice. Beecher will finally be tested again on Friday when it travels to Flint Carman-Ainsworth for the last game of 2019.

19. East Lansing (4-0)

Division 1

Previous rank: 19

The Trojans sure knew how to make things exciting last week, picking up back-to-back ovetime wins. The first was a 52-46 win over Haslett and the next was a 58-55 win over DeWitt. Cincinnati Withrow awaits on Saturday in Ferndale for the Roundball Classic.

18. Hudsonville (2-0)

Division 1

Previous rank: 17

The Eagles picked up another solid win with a 71-66 victory over Hudsonville Unity Christian. Hudsonville will play in the Cornerstone tournament this weekend and will face Kenowa Hills on Friday and a TBD opponent on Monday.

17. Detroit Douglass (3-1)

Division 2

Previous rank: 15

The Hurricanes had no problem defeating Detroit Central, 90-60, and Detroit Pershing, 87-54. Douglass will head to Cass Tech on Friday to face Saginaw Arthur Hill and then face Port Huron Northern on Monday.

16. Detroit Martin Luther King (3-1)

Division 1

Previous rank: 14

After a close loss to River Rouge, King has bounced back with two dominant wins over Detroit East English and Detroit Osborn. Up next is a matchup against Waterford Mott on Friday and Farmington on Sunday.

15. Troy (3-0)

Division 1

Previous rank: 13.

The Colts have won every game in comfortable fashion so far this season. Troy will face Canton on Friday before having a tough test against Saginaw on Sunday.

14. Ferndale (1-0)

Division 2

Previous rank: 12

Ferndale hasn't seen competition since its 66-55 win over Flint Beecher over a week ago. Ferndale will return to competition on Friday against Lincoln-Way Central (Ill.).

13. River Rouge (3-1)

Division 1

Previous rank: 3

The Panthers have gotten off to a strong start, earning some big wins. Yet, River Rouge was beaten for the first time last week against a strong Grand Rapids Catholic Central team, 63-60, in overtime. River Rouge should be able to turn things around on Friday against a struggling Cincinnati Withrow team. It will be the Panthers' last game until Jan. 7.

12. Grand Rapids Catholic Central (2-1)

Division 2

Previous rank: 18

After suffering a tough 60-54 loss to Grand Rapids Christian, the Cougars bounced back in a big way with a 63-60 overtime win over River Rouge. GRCC is not back in action until Jan. 10.

11. Saginaw (2-1)

Divison 1

Previous rank: 5

Arthur Hill lost in a home matchup with Flint Carman-Ainsworth last week, 72-64. Things don't get any easier during the holiday stretch with games against Detroit Cass Tech and Troy.

10. Ypsilanti Lincoln (2-1)

After its win over Pinckney on Friday, Lincoln will prepare for just one game during the holiday stretch against Okemos. After that, Lincoln is off until Jan. 14.

9. Grand Rapids Christian (4-0)

Division 1

Previous rank: NR

Christian is off to a hot start and took down Grand Rapids Catholic Central, 60-54. The Eagles followed that up with a 60-47 win over Holland Christian. Muskegon Reeths-Puffer is up on Friday.

8. Detroit Cass Tech (2-0)

Division 1

Previous rank: 11

After just edging out Detroit Henry Ford, 65-64, last week, the Technicians prepare for a pair of tough holiday tournament opponents. First, Cass Tech squares off against Saginaw on Friday at home, and then it travels to Ferndale to face Flint Carman-Ainsworth on Monday.

7. Flint Carman-Ainsworth (3-0)

Division 1

Previous rank: 10

The Cavs have a great Friday afternoon matchup against Flint Beecher this week, pitting two of the top Flint-area teams against each other. On Monday next week, Carman-Ainsworth travels to Ferndale to face Detroit Cass Tech.

6. Grand Blanc (3-0)

Division 1

Previous rank: 9

The Bobcats picked up wins in consecutive nights last weekm beating Lapeer, 62-51, and Maywood Proviso East (Ill.), 83-44. Grand Blanc will square off against Lincoln-Way Central in the Motor City Roundball Classic on Saturday.

5. Muskegon (1-0)

Division 1

Previous rank: 8

Muskegon hasn't played since its 67-58 win over Rockford on Dec. 13. The Big Reds return to action on Friday when it hosts East Kentwood in its final game of 2019.

4. Clarkston (1-1)

Division 1

Previous rank: 1

The Wolves went neck-and-neck against St. Mary's through two quarters of play but could not hang with the Eaglets in the second half of a 68-55 loss. Clarkston should still be considered a contender at this point and will hope for a rematch against the Eaglets in the region finals. Clarkston faces Roseville on Friday at North Farmington.

3. Benton Harbor (3-0)

Division 2

Previous rank: 7

Benton Harbor got a nice home win by taking down Kalamazoo Central, 68-62, on Friday. The Tigers will look to keep rolling against Redford Union and Grand Rapids Ottawa Hill on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

2. Ann Arbor Huron (2-0)

Division 1

Previous rank: 4

Huron came up clutch in its opener with a 53-50 win over Detroit Edison and followed that with a blowout win over Isaiah Jackson-less Waterford Mott. The River Rats don't play again until Saturday against Detroit University Prep for a noon tip at Ann Arbor Pioneer. Pioneer will be hitting the road for Ohio this weekend, taking on Cleveland Shaker Heights and Richmond Heights in consecutive days.

1. Orchard Lake St. Mary's (3-0)

Division 1

Coming in with one of the best backcourts in the state, the Lorne Bowman and Julian Roper show has not disappointed through three games so far. However, guys like 6-8 Peter Nwoke and guard Kareem Rozier are already proving they are difference makers as well. Things couldn't be looking much better for the Eaglets to start the season, but they need to stay sharp with a game against Farmington on Friday and a matchup with Grand Blanc next week.
