The NHRA is determined to get in as close to a full schedule as possible for 2020, but it sure hasn't been easy.

Or with out a hitch.

That latest hitch came today when series officials announced that the NHRA Heartland Nationals scheduled for Aug. 21-23 is postponed until fall. When that date might be was not announced.

Topeka joins races previously scheduled for Brainerd, Minn.; and Denver on the NHRA list of postponed races. It's worth noting that the current NHRA revised schedule has no open fall dates listed until the Nov. 8-9 weekend.

The NHRA hopes to end its season Nov. 15 at Pomona, Calif.

Racing in Minnesota, Colorado or Kansas in November or December seems like a stretch for even a series determined to reach as many races as possible in 2020. So far, four races have been run, including two at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis. The next scheduled race is Aug. 6-9—at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis.

“Topeka is fortunate to have a county health department that sincerely cares about public safety and also understands the economic impact of one of Kansas’ largest events,” said Heartland Motorsports Park owner, Chris Payne. “It is after many conversations, the decision was made to postpone the event to the fall. Heartland Motorsports Park holds many milestone records. The cooler fall weather will not only be more comfortable for the spectators, but also brings favorable conditions, great racing, camping, and the chance of setting new records.”

The remainder of NHRA’s 2020 schedule remains the same, but is subject to change based on state and local guidelines.
