Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson has revealed she is pregnant with her second child - just over one year after giving birth to her 14-month-old daughter Drew Hazel.

The gold medal winner, who is married to NFL player Andrew East, shared the happy news on her Instagram account on Friday, posting images of herself showing off her baby bump alongside her husband and their daughter. She captioned them simply: 'Here we go again.'

Shawn, 28, and Andrew, 29, also shared a pregnancy announcement on their YouTube channel, where they documented the moment the expectant mother discovered she was pregnant for a second time.

Although the couple did not share Shawn's exact due date, they revealed that they are expecting their baby in the summer - and both suspect that it will be a boy.

The couple's happy news comes just over three years after Shawn suffered a devastating miscarriage, a heartbreaking experience that they touched on in their video while offering words of kindness to anyone else who has gone through a similar loss.

'If you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, if you're trying to adopt, if you're in the process of expanding your family or recently suffering from a loss, we are praying for you,' Shawn said towards the end of the clip.

'All those beautiful babies out there, all those rainbow babies, all those babies in heaven. We love you guys.'

In the clip, the couple documented the sweet moment that Shawn learned she was pregnant with their second child - admitting that she first suspected she might be expecting when her emotions began going haywire.

'Let's start at the part where Shawn wasn't being very nice to me, and I thought, dang, the last time she was like this, she was pregnant,' Andrew joked - before sharing a clip of himself revealing that the couple had got into a bitter fight that had 'ended in tears'.

'I feel like she's been emotionally variable this past week in a way that I can't remember her being like since she got pregnant,' he told the camera.

In another clip, Shawn was seen breaking down in tears suddenly, before telling her husband, 'I think I'm pregnant. I don't know why I'm crying, I think I'm hormonal.'

Her emotional outbursts began not long after she was given the go-ahead to start trying for a second child; Shawn gave birth to her first daughter via C-section, and the couple were told by their doctor that they needed to wait at least a year before attempting to conceive again.

But even though she had missed a period, and was struggling with her hormones, the first pregnancy test that she took turned out to be negative. A few days later however, she tried again - and was delighted to see a positive result.

'I can't keep a secret so I was like, I have to tell Andrew,' Shawn recalled - before sharing a sweet clip of her giving her husband the happy news.

'I freakin' knew you were!' Andrew exclaimed at seeing his wife's pregnancy test - with the gymnast joking that his response was 'the worst reaction'.

The pregnancy news was not without drama however; Shawn explained that when she tried to work out the date of the baby's conception, she discovered she had been pregnant for two months without realizing, and became quickly concerned about things she had done during that time which may have put their unborn child at risk.

'I had just taken cold medicine, I'd had a glass of wine, I was freaking out,' she said.

The soon-to-be mother-of-two also opened up about how her 2017 miscarriage changed the way she looks at pregnancy news, admitting that she tries not to get too excited by the news at first because she 'doesn't know how it might end'.

'Every time I get a [positive] pregnancy test after the miscarriage, I try to numb myself and be like, OK here's the situation, you're pregnant, we don't know how this might end,' she said.

'I don't celebrate it, which is kind of sad. I get very excited, but I also get very daunted by the situation.'

In June of last year, Shawn opened up in detail about the dangerous lengths she went in order to maintain her fit physique after the Olympics - while sharing her fears that her abuse of Adderall and diet pills caused her to miscarry.

Although her doctor assured her that it wasn't her fault, she confessed that she had blamed herself for the loss of their unborn child.

'When I miscarried, I had this gut-wrenching feeling that it was because of my past —because of the ephedrine, because of the Adderall, because of the pills, the diuretics, because of starving myself and the weight fluctuations and the binging and purging,' she said.

'I thought it was because of all those bad choices I had made that had caused me to miscarry and that would potentially cause me not to be able to have a kid.'

Shawn explained that she was consumed with perfectionism as an elite gymnast and would only eat about 700 calories per day during her rigorous training for the Olympics.

'I would pass out during practice or after practice. My body would cramp. I didn't have energy. I was unable to have a period. I wasn't maturing,' she recalled.

She was just 16 years old when she competed in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, and took home one gold and three silver medals.
