When the American Association announced that the 2020 season would start and be truncated, there may have been some cheers from fans. Yet came disappointment for many when in that same announcement, the league said that three cities will host two teams each to help keep the traveling down and also to adhere to state and local guidelines at the time. The Chicago Dogs were able to break off from playing in the Milwaukee Milkmen stadium. Now the St Paul Saints have announced the news that I’m sure many fans in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas have been waiting to hear:

The Saints are coming home.

Announced this afternoon, St Paul has devised a plan in conjunction with the state government of Minnesota to have fans in the stands. This means that all remaining scheduled home games for the Saints will be played at the beloved CHS Field starting with their next scheduled home game on August 4 when the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks visit. 18 games - more than half of the 30 schedule home games - will now be played in St Paul.

Of course, there will be some restrictions in place, outlined below:

  • A maximum of 1,500 fans will be allowed through the gates.
  • There will be six areas where fans will be allowed to sit with those areas being maxed out at 25% capacity and no more than 250 people in the area.
  • Each section will have its own entrance, restroom facilities, and concession stands.
  • Seats will be reserved to allow for social distancing.
  • Masks will be required at all times except when sitting, eating, and drinking.
  • The concourses will be set up as to allow for proper social distancing.

The Saints have a record of 5-7 while playing “home” games at Sioux Falls Stadium, the regular home of the Sioux Falls Canaries. They currently sit five games back from the league-leading Winnipeg Goldeyes with a little more than half of the 60-game season to go.

Tickets go on sale at 10a this Saturday by phone (651-644-6659) or by visiting the team’s website at saintsbaseball.com, where you can also find additional information about the guidelines at the game.
