SBLive’s California Baseball Top 25: No. 7 Sherman Oaks Notre Dame off to 6-0 start
The 2023 high school baseball season in California is underway across the state. Many schools in the Southern Section have begun league play while other sections are beginning non-league tournaments.
Here’s a look at the top baseball teams in California. SBLive’s statewide California high school baseball rankings are compiled by SBLive reporter Bodie DeSilva and are released weekly throughout the season.

1. Villa Park (4-0)
The Spartans shutout Esperanza in their lone game last week. Senior Brandon Luu tossed a complete game while AJ Krodel picked up two hits.

2. JSerra (3-1)
After a dominant first three games this season, JSerra dropped their second of two games against Cypress. Three Trinity League games against Mater Dei are up this week.

3. Orange Lutheran (5-1-1)
The Lancers were off last week. They'll open up Trinity League play this week with a three-game series against Santa Margarita.

4. Aquinas (3-1)
The Falcons will end a 15-day layoff with a home league game against Woodcrest Christian on Thursday.

5. Corona (4-1)
The Panthers shutout Foothill on Saturday, their fourth of the season. They'll head to Las Vegas midweek for a game against Bishop Gorman, ranked eighth nationally in the SBLive Power 25.

6. De La Salle (1-0)
The Spartans beat Folsom 6-3 in Friday's season opener. Freshman Tyler Spangler homered in his first career varsity game.

7. Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) (6-0)
Notre Dame swept three games from Alemany last week. They'll look to stay unbeaten this week with a three-game series against Chaminade.

8. Harvard-Westlake (5-2)
The Wolverines opened Mission League play by taking two of three games from St. Francis. They'll play three games against Loyola this week.

9. Santa Margarita (3-1)
Santa Margarita handled Hart and Damien last week in home non-league games. They'll begin a three-game Trinity League series on Monday night against Orange Lutheran.

10. Cypress (5-4)
Cypress split two games at JSerra last week, knocking the Lions from the top spot in the California rankings. They'll start Empire League play with two games against Kennedy this week.

11. Gahr (3-1-1)
Gahr lost to Huntington Beach on Friday, 6-3. They'll take on Tesoro, South Hills and Glendora later on this week.

12. Foothill (Pleasanton) (4-0)
Arizona commit Nate Novitske is 6-13 with two home runs in the first four games of the season.

13. Granite Hills (2-0)
Granite Hills opened the season with an impressive 10-3 win over La Costa Canyon and followed it up with a 4-1 win against Hilltop a day later.

14. Etiwanda (2-2)
The Eagles will have been off for more than two weeks when they return to the field against Northview on Wednesday.

15. Norco (2-2)
The Cougars will be off for a second straight week before they begin Big VIII League play against Santiago next Monday.

16. Foothill (Santa Ana) (4-3)
The Knights went 1-1 last week, getting shutout by Corona on Saturday. They'll play Canyon, Brea Olinda and Yucaipa later this week.

17. La Costa Canyon (0-1)
The Mavericks dropped their opener to Granite Hills in a rematch of last season's San Diego Section Open Division championship game. They'll play four times this week starting with a trip to Del Norte on Tuesday.

18. Whitney (Rocklin) (1-0)
Whitney had 10 hits and three stolen bases in Wednesday's season-opening 8-2 win over Lincoln. They'll play three games this week including a massive non-league game against Franklin on Wednesday.

19. La Mirada (4-1)
Columbia-signee Eric Jeon struck out nine batters in Thursday's 7-0 win against Warren. They'll play in the West Coast Showdown this week starting on Wednesday.

20. Frankin (Elk Grove) (2-0)
Cal commit Jordan Lopez has reached base in all seven plate appearances this season. The Wildcats beat Folsom and Rocklin last week and will play three times this week.

21. St. Francis (Mountain View) (4-0)
UNC-Charlotte commit Elias Duncan has five doubles in his first four games of the season. The Lancers travel to Palo Alto on Tuesday before hosting Los Gatos and Buchanan later in the week.

22. Archbishop Mitty (4-0)
UC Davis commit Matteo Blandino is hitting .556 with a home run so far for the Monarchs. Games against Menlo-Atherton and Palo Alto are schedule for this week.

23. Rancho Bernardo (1-0)
USC-signee Kevin Takeuchi hit for the cycle in his senior season debut on Saturday. The Broncos will play a two-game series with Mission Hills this week.

Stanford commit Tatum Marsh is hitting .462 with a home run and a double through five games for the Warriors.
