Victor Wembanyama is the projected No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, and there is a good reason for that. He has shown flashes of his insane potential in the French league, and many believe that he can be a franchise-changing superstar in the league. 

While Victor Wembanyama may be the most hyped player in the draft, there are definitely other players in the draft with franchise-changing potential. One of those players is point guard Scoot Henderson, who is projected to be the No. 2 pick due to his elite athleticism and slashing ability.

Recently, Scoot Henderson claimed that he wants to be the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft over Victor Wembanyama. He stated that though he is "blessed" to be in his position, his "competitive spirit" makes him want to be the No. 1 in whatever he does. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype relayed the news.

I’m blessed to be in the position I am for sure. I want to be No. 1. It’s my competitive spirit. I’m itching to be No. 1 in whatever I do, whether it’s badminton, pickleball, or whatever it is, I want to win. Second is great as well, but No. 1 is the goal.

There is no doubt that Scoot Henderson is likely to be a good player in the NBA, but there are few if any GMs that would select him as the No. 1 over Victor Wembanyama. Even if Scoot Henderson was better in the now, Victor Wembanyama simply has too much potential to pass up.

With that being said, it is good to see that Scoot Henderson is confident in his abilities. Having confidence is key for any player, and there is no doubt that this trait will help Henderson flourish in the league.

Victor Wembanyama Previously Took A Shot At Scoot Henderson

In a lot of other draft classes, Scoot Henderson would likely be the No. 1 pick. However, Victor Wembanyama is simply different, and it seems as though he knows that fact as well. Previously, Victor Wembanyama took a sly dig at Scoot Henderson, suggesting that Henderson would deserve to be the No. 1 pick if Wembanyama was never born.

It remains to be seen how Victor Wembanyama actually does in the league, but many are confident in his ability to be a game-warping player. In fact, an agent recently claimed that Victor Wembanyama has the potential to become the GOAT.

Hopefully, we see both Victor Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson thrive in the league. They both are extremely talented, and it'll be interesting to see them play against one another once they actually get drafted.
