Chicago Bulls guard Coby White will be sidelined for at least four months with a left shoulder injury.

The Bulls announced the news on Thursday. White suffered the injury "while engaged in basketball activities away from the team," according to the Bulls. He underwent surgery and will be re-evaluated in four months. The team didn't reveal what the specific injury is.

Will Coby White be ready for the start of next season?

A four-month timeline would leave White ready for the start of the 2021-22 regular season but not for training camp. The NBA announced on Thursday that next season's training camps will open in late September with the regular season slated to tip off on Oct. 19, a return to a normal schedule after COVID-19 forced changes to back-to-back seasons.

White averaged 15.1 points, 4.8 assists and 4.1 rebounds last season while shooting 41.6% from the field and 35.9% from 3-point distance. He became a full-time starter in Chicago's backcourt alongside All-Star Zach LaVine during his second season in the league.

The Bulls made a series of moves at the trade deadline that included acquiring Nikola Vucevic and Daniel Theis in a failed effort to make the postseason. Ending a four-season playoff drought will be the goal in Chicago next season with White expected to play a key role in those plans.
