SALT LAKE CITY — Robert Williams III will miss his eighth straight game when the Celtics take on the Jazz on Saturday at Vivint Arena. The big man hasn’t played since suffering a hamstring injury against the Nets on March 3.

Williams’ timetable to return has also been up in the air. Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla floated out an initial seven-to-10 day timeframe, but that passed without Williams returning to the court. However, Mazzulla said he thinks there’s a chance the big man could play in the Celtics’ game against the Kings on Tuesday in Sacramento.

“He was on the court today working,” Mazzulla said of Williams. “I spoke to him yesterday and he seemed like he was in a good space. He seemed like he was getting closer.”

Meanwhile, the Celtics will be shorthanded when they face the Jazz, missing three starters and five total players. Marcus Smart was listed as out on the injury report because of a left hip contusion, but Mazzulla confirmed that should be a short-term injury.

Boston is also without Al Horford (second game of back-to-back), Williams, Payton Pritchard (heel) and Danilo Gallinari (ACL recovery) on Saturday. But the Williams news is a definite positive for the Celtics as they look to get healthy ahead of the playoffs.
