Houston Texans defensive end Christian Covington is a proud Rice Owl. Now on injured reserve with a torn triceps muscle and subsequent surgery, Covington took some time to thank the man who originally brought him to Houston for college, David Bailiff.

Bailiff was fired Monday after a 1-11 season. The coach spent 11 years with the Owls and tasted his best success in the years where Covington was an undergrad.

His heartfelt message to his former coach, mentor and teacher reflects on the impact every coach hopes they have on young players.

What a wonderfully worded, thoughtful and thankful message from Covington!
