LeBron James, SpringHill Entertainment to produce Ben Simmons-inspired sitcom for NBC

LeBron James has another TV production in the works.

SpringHill Entertainment, fronted by James and Maverick Carter, will develop a comedy for NBC based on the life of Philadelphia 76ers rookie of the year Ben Simmons.

Titled "Brotherly Love," the show focuses on a sibling relationship in a multi-ethnic family as the brothers chase their dreams in Philadelphia, where a passion for sports runs deep.

"How I Met Your Mother" and "Fresh Off the Boat" producer Kourtney Kang is an executive producer along with James and Carter. Patrick Kang, Kourtney’s brother, and Michael Levin are co-executive producers and writers, and Simmons and his brother, Sean Tribe, are consulting producers.

While the order is for a script, the star power behind the show plus a penalty paid to the producers if the half-hour comedy doesn’t air makes it likely the pilot gets to TV.

SpringHill’s portfolio is growing. Its round-table talk show "The Shop" recently debuted on HBO. Next month, Showtime will air a three-part documentary titled "Shut Up and Dribble" about the role athletes have in today’s social and political environment.
