Nelson Piquet Apologises To Lewis Hamilton Over Racial Slur

Nelson Piquet has apologized to Lewis Hamilton after he used racist language when referring to Hamilton in an interview. Piquet used a word similar to the N-word when discussing Hamilton’s crash with Max Verstappen at Silverstone last season. The Brazilian said he did not intend to make any racial connotations and has accused the media of mistranslating his comments. "What I said was ill thought out, and I make no defense for it, but I will clarify that the term used is one that has widely and historically been used colloquially in Brazilian Portuguese as a synonym for ‘guy’ or ‘person’ and was never intended to offend," Nelson Piquet. Piquet says he strongly condemns the idea he would use the word with the aim of “belittling a driver because of his skin color.” Speaking about Piquet’s comments, Hamilton said, “These archaic mindsets need to change and have no place in our sport.”
