Stephen Curry not happy with reporter’s question about winning Finals MVP, not about Warriors as a team

BOSTON — Stephen Curry won his fourth NBA championship after a Game 6 win over the Celtics on Thursday. He’s reached the mountaintop of the league multiple times, yet he had never won a Finals MVP trophy until he earned it after a great Finals showing.

So when Curry was at his postgame news conference, the first question Curry got was about getting Finals MVP for the first time in his career. But the all-world shooter wasn’t happy with that being the first question.

“Forget that question,” Curry said animatedly. “Why you start with that question? We’ve got four championships. God is great. The ability to be on this stage and play with amazing teammates against a great Boston Celtics team that gave us everything to try to get to the finish line.”

Curry finished with 34 points, seven assists and seven rebounds in the Warriors’ closeout Game 6 win over the Celtics. While Boston led 2-1 in the Finals at one point, the Warriors reeled off three straight victory to close out the season. Curry was a huge part of that and was the best player in the series. His 43-point Game 4 performance was arguably the greatest Finals game of his career.

The Warriors will soak in the thrills of victory. They were written off over the past few seasons after Kevin Durant left as the core of their team got older. But they pulled off at least one more ring as Curry picked up his fourth title alongside Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

“This one hits different for sure, just knowing what the last three years have meant, what it’s been like from injuries to changing of the guard in the rosters,” Curry said. “(Andrew Wiggins) coming through, our young guys carrying the belief that we could get back to this stage and win, even if it didn’t make sense to anybody when we said it. All that stuff matters.”
