The Oregon Ducks are now about to begin the search for a new head coach and offensive coordinator. It has been made official that Mario Cristobal is accepting a deal that will make him the new head coach at the University of Miami, where he won two championships as a player.

An Oregon players meeting was held at the Hatfield Dowlin Complex on Monday morning, where Cristobal informed the team of his decision.

For the past several days, there has been a rumor that Cristobal would be taking the Miami job after they started to strongly recruit him ahead of Oregon’s appearance in the Pac-12 Championship Game. The word was that Miami was offering Cristobal a massive contract that would likely be north of $8 million per season, and give him a large budget for a coaching staff.

Meanwhile, the Ducks were not just sitting idly by. Cristobal was reportedly offered a contract extension in Eugene that rivaled some deals recently signed by Lincoln Riley and Brian Kelly. It was rumored to be a deal that was big enough to keep Cristobal in Eugene for the foreseeable future and indicate to prospective schools that he is off-limits in future coaching carousels.

In the end, it appears that Cristobal sided with his alma mater, and will be heading down to Miami where he will look to rebuild what was once the class of the nation.
