Not quite sure what to make of this Iowa State football season? Take a number.

Matt Campbell's Cyclones (5-3, 3-2 Big 12 Conference) have looked dominant against most inferior competition and just good enough to come up short against the three College Football Playoff-ranked opponents it has faced this season.

Now comes the biggest test of all: a 7 p.m., Fox-televised showdown against eighth-ranked Oklahoma and the Sooners' latest wunderkind quarterback, Jalen Hurts.

Iowa State needs to win out to keep conference title-game hopes alive, and the Cyclones need a 3-1 finish to stay on the proper side of a log-jammed bowl picture in the Big 12.

Iowa State is coming off a bye, but so is Oklahoma, and the Sooners are smarting after their first stumble of the season two weeks ago at Kansas State. The Cyclones are two-touchdown underdogs.

... Good luck? We'll see if a repeat of 2017 is in store. For now, here are the game's projected starters.
