Highlights & Evaluation: Louisville LB Commit Trent Carter

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville football program has added another productive defender to their 2024 class, as Trent Carter has committed to the Cardinals.

Prospect: Trent Carter

Position: Linebacker

Measurables: 6-foot-2, 216 pounds

Trent Carter's Junior Year Highlights: HERE (Hudl)

Frame: Considering Clark also participates in competitive weightlifting, he has a great amount of upper body weight and strength. He also has a good wingspan, and film plus recent photos suggest he could be at least 15-20 pounds bigger than what is officially listed.

Athleticism: As you can imagine with Clark's physique, he is usually one of the stronger players on the field at any given times. He's not the most fleet of foot agility-wise, but as far as open field speed goes, he's about par for the course as far as high school middle linebackers go.

Instincts: Clark's best work comes as a read-and-react run stopper. He does a great job of tracking the running back or quarterback through offensive and defensive line, especially on outside run plays or scrambles, and attacking when he sees an opportunity. He has an incredible nose for the football, regularly using his natural strength and tacking form to force the ball out. Speaking of which, Clark is a tremendous form tackler thanks in part to both his wingspan and his physicality. He hits incredibly hard for someone who doesn't go out of their way to lay the hit stick.

Polish: While Clark's efforts in run coverage surpasses his efforts in pass coverage, he does show flashes here. He has a good feel for zone coverage, and displays solid timing when the ball is thrown in his vicinity. Despite not having great burst, Clark takes very good sideline-to-sideline pursuit angles and surprisingly doesn't allow many ballcarriers to turn the corner on him. He does need to continue to work on moves against linemen and his overall prowess as a downhill run stopper or blitzer.

Bottom Line: Clark fills a position of need for Louisville's defense, and overall, he is someone who could have longterm potential for Louisville in the middle of the field. Some work will have to go towards developing an extra gear, but he is already very fundamentally sound, physical and knows how to make big time plays in the form of fumbles. His play style fits exceptionally well for the Ron English/Mark Hagen 4-2-5.
