Jack Koerner of Iowa is one of the feel-good stories in college football. A former walk-on, he played at a high enough level in 2019 in order to earn a scholarship with the Hawkeyes this spring.

Sadly, Koerner suffered serious injuries Friday following a boating accident in which he and another man were jet skiing at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, per a report from KYTV in Springfield, Missouri. When the two men crashed into the side of a boat at around 6:30 p.m., Koerner was rushed to Lake Regional Hospital, and his friend was taken to University Hospital in Columbia.

The injuries are significant, but are reportdly not life-threatening.

A statement made by Iowa’s athletic department gave an update on the details of the situation and Koerner’s current health condition.

While Koerner is currently hospitalized, all indications point to the fact that he is going to be okay. With some time to recover before the Hawkeyes potentially open fall camp at the start of August, Koerner ought to take every bit of time necessary to recover.
