Look: AP Poll Names College Football's Greatest Program Ever
There's no shortage of college football programs with tremendous history. But which one is the greatest?
Recently, College Football News took every final AP Top 25 Poll dating back to 1936 and created a formula to rank the most successful schools all-time. The AP's No. 1-ranked team received 25 points, No. 2 team 24 points and so on.
A number of CFB blue bloods rank within the top-10. However, when it comes to who's the greatest, one team stands alone: the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Writes 247's Brad Crawford:
Nick Saban is second to none. College football's greatest coach of all-time has captured six national titles since 2009 and hasn't lost more than two games in a season in 12 years. Saban is 189-27 in Tuscaloosa and passed Paul 'Bear' Bryant during the 2020 season for most championships all-time. Alabama's unprecedented run under his watch may not be topped and there's no signs of it slowing down since he just signed another top-ranked recruiting class. ... A respected program before his arrival, Saban has scaled college football's mountain with the Crimson Tide and has now taken Alabama to No. 1 in this all-time ranking according to AP Poll points.
Schools like Ohio State, Oklahoma, Michigan and Notre Dame round out the top-five. You can check out the rest of how the programs stack up here.
