Boeheim will not be charged, according to police.

According to a Syracuse.com piece on Thursday morning, Syracuse Orange men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim was involved in a fatal collision with a man walking on the Interstate I-690 last night around 11:22 p.m.

The story states that a previous crash had led to a passenger in that car — later revealed to be 51-year old Syracuse resident Jorge Jimenez — exiting onto the freeway. Jimenez was then struck by Boeheim’s car shortly thereafter. Boeheim recorded a BAC of 0.00 at the scene.

Bobby was at the police station this morning and gathered additional information around the incident:

  • Boeheim swerved to avoid the disabled vehicle and hit Jimenez, who was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead (autopsy will determine exact cause of death)
  • As the BAC of 0.00 indicates, alcohol has been ruled out and Boeheim was fully cooperative with police
  • Boeheim will not be charged at this time

A statement from Syracuse police is included here. Boeheim will also be making a statement on the matter, which we’ll include when it’s issued. This post will be updated as more information becomes available.

Condolences to Jimenez’s family following this horrible incident.
