Rice Owls starting quarterback Wiley Green took a very scary shot to the top of his head Friday night against Wake Forest and had to be carted off the field.

Green was attempting to get into the end zone when he was wrapped up by one defender before another came crashing in and hit him with a helmet-to-helmet shot right at the crown of the head.

It was a frightening scene afterward, with Green remaining on the ground for more than five minutes.

Medical staff immobilized Green on a stretcher before carting him off the field.

Before exiting the game, Green ad completed 3-of-5 passes for 69 yards.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Green, his family and teammates as they await a diagnosis.
