Samuel Peacock, Oregon State Beavers OL pledge, flips to Washington Huskies logo 11/15/2019 By Andrew Nemec,

When Gig Harbor High School (Washington) offensive tackle Samuel Peacock committed to the Oregon State Beavers in July it didn’t seem, on paper, like a major addition.

The 6-foot-6, 265-pound offensive tackle chose Oregon State over offers from Columbia, Georgetown, Idaho, Northern Colorado and Portland State.

But the film showed a potential late riser who the Beavers would have to battle to keep.

Since that time, Peacock has risen from a 247Sports prospect rated a “72” to an “87," making him a candidate for a late fourth star.

On Thursday, however, Oregon State’s hidden gem turned into a near-miss, as Peacock flipped his commitment to the Washington Huskies:

One of Oregon State’s top priorities was to secure an offensive tackle or two in the 2020 recruiting class, but the current talent collection consists of only three-star offensive guard Cooper Darling.

There’s time for a bounce-back after the loss of Peacock – it’s possible Thurston offensive tackle Grant Starck becomes an option – but the loss stings nonetheless.

Silver lining? Jonathan Smith and his coaching staff have been early believers on a number of high-caliber recruits in both the 2019 and 2020 recruiting cycles.
