Dawson Knox tabbed a late pick that could make ‘immediate’ impact

Who is Dawson Knox? Someone that could immediately come into the Buffalo Bills' offense and contribute, according to the NFL Wire.

Doug Farrar writes that the second of two Bills' third-round picks could jump right in and be a contributor for quarterback Josh Allen, both as a blocker and playmaker, he writes in a piece titled "late-round draft picks who could make immediate NFL contributions."

Here's how he explained Knox's selection.

Dawson Knox, TE, Buffalo Bills

DK Metcalf was one of the most explosive receivers in this draft class, but if you go back and watch Metcalf's 75-yard touchdown catch against Alabama, you'll see an outstanding block to quarterback Jordan Ta'amu's blind side that allowed the play to happen. That block came from Knox, selected by the Bills late in the third round. An outstanding blocker on more than just that play and an underutilized target who can get open underneath and has the ramp-up speed for big plays downfield, Knox is the kind of player who emerges as a team favorite early on and gets the reps he deserves as a starter.

The key to Knox's success with the Bills will come down to two words in the above explanation. Farrar tabbed Knox as an "underutilized target."

In college at Ole Miss, Knox's numbers simple were not good. However, the offense he was in had multiple offensive weapons, including Metcalf and AJ Brown. And remember, there's only one ball to go around.

Some think Knox will take time to develop in the NFL. Which is fine, since Buffalo signed players such as Tyler Kroft at the tight end position this offseason, too. But no one on the Buffalo coaching staff will be mad if Knox is the No. 1 on opening day. The Bills have yet to roster a "modern" NFL tight end, and it would go a long way if Knox was that early and often in his career.
