Day 1: Trapping Trash and Diverting it from our Waterways

Trash trapping technologies do more than divert litter from aquatic ecosystems. They collect data, allowing us to quantitatively measure our impact and also inform local source-reduction by understanding what we are collecting. They also raise awareness, and can be a centerpiece for education and outreach, inspiring imagination in the community and gaining attention from the media. At this 2-day workshop, we aimed to motivate local groups of stakeholders to come together to trap trash. We provided the recipe to enable success and shared our tools for harmonized data collection. After the workshop, teams will have the tools necessary to quantify their individual impact and share it through the International Trash Trap Network (part of the International Coastal Cleanup’s global database). https://oceanconservancy.org/trash-free-seas/international-coastal-cleanup/trash-trap-network/
