It’s been a rough couple of years for former Sooners’ great Gerald McCoy. After signing with the Dallas Cowboys last offseason, McCoy was injured in the first training camp practice and was forced to miss the entire 2020 season.

As a free agent coming off of an injury, he didn’t have many suitors, but as teams got into training camp and saw what they had, one team decided to add the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers star.

On Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reported that Gerald McCoy had signed with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Though details of the contract have not yet been disclosed, it’s likely a one-year deal with incentives for games played.

The Raiders are looking for options to help bolster an interior defensive line that was not very good in 2020. The Raiders allowed the ninth-most rushing yards in 2020 and got minimal pass rush up the middle.

Gerald McCoy should help in both of those areas. Health will be a factor in his 2021 production, but it hasn’t been in his career. McCoy hadn’t missed more than three games in a season since 2011 when he played just six for the Buccaneers.
