PITTSBURGH — The Jets will have their starting quarterback back on the field Sunday afternoon against the Steelers and they also will have a potential key contributor playing on defense for the first time this year.

Zach Wilson, last year’s No. 2 overall pick, is active for the first time this season as he returns from a preseason knee injury. And pass rusher Bryce Huff, who has been inactive for the first three games this season, the odd man out in the Jets’ deep defensive line rotation, will play for the first time this year. Huff played nine games for the Jets last year and had seven sacks in nine starts.

If anyone was wondering if the Jets’ commitment to their defensive line rotation was wavering, there should be no doubt as they will carry 10 defensive linemen into this game.

Wilson suffered a right knee bone bruise and meniscus tear on the second series of the preseason opener against the Eagles on Aug. 12. He had surgery to repair the meniscus tear on Aug. 16. Veteran Joe Flacco started the first three games of the season in Wilson’s stead, leading the Jets to a 1-2 record.

Wilson returned to practice on Sept. 14 and was a limited participant in the practices throughout Week 2 and Week 3 before he practiced fully for the first time on Wednesday.

He wore a sleeve over his right leg during practice on Thursday and Friday, apparently not in need of a large brace like the one he wore the final seven games of last year after returning from a right knee MCL sprain that cost him four games in his rookie season.
