Lake Travis made it look like a day in the park in the Class 6A Division I state semifinal against Katy.

The Cavaliers bested the Tigers in a 28-14 win at Alamo Stadium. The win denies Katy (12-1) its 15th all-time appearance in a state championship game.

Lake Travis quarterback and Ohio State commitment Matt Baldwin's start was nearly perfect.

He was 8-of-12 for 95 yards at the time of Garrett Wilson's 2-yard touchdown run with a minute left in the second quarter.

Katy found its way eventually on offense thanks to running back Deondrick Glass, who had 128 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries by halftime. His 15-yard score tied the game early in the second quarter.

But Katy saw a sequence of mishaps later in the quarter that usually escape the Tigers.

Katy quarterback Austin Marshall had an open Trey Brown in the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown but the pass was dropped. It lined usually accurate Seth Small up for a 32-yard field goal attempt in the inclement weather. The kick went wide.

Baldwin hit Wilson for 40 yards on the next play. The Cavs (13-2) pulled some trickery and had Hudson Card's 43-yard touchdown pass to Wilson to cap off the five-play drive.

Lake Travis was looking at a 14-7 lead heading into the half. Marshall was unable to handle a high snap on Katy's next drive and Lake Travis' Reid Bacon was there to recover.

Just enough time was left for Baldwin's 26-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Wakefield. A seven-point deficit at the half turned into 14 at the snap of a finger for Katy.

Katy stuck to Glass and its ground game to open the second half and it was successful. Faced with a 4th and 2 from the Lake Travis 3, Marshall flipped a touchdown pass to Jacob Lighter. That was a 91-yard drive that milked most of the third quarter and changed the complexion of the game at the time.

Lake Travis saw a little adversity when Baldwin suffered an injury on the next drive and had to be helped off the field.

It didn't matter.

Lake Travis had another trick up its sleeve with Wilson's touchdown pass to Card on the very next play with 9:15 left in the game.

Katy lost its second fumble of the day on the next drive and Lake Travis inched closer to the win.
