The Houston Texans signed eight-year veteran Laremy Tunsil to a contract extension, the team announced on Tuesday.

Tunsil and the Texans won just 11 games in the past three seasons, but he expects that to change.

In a Texans press conference on Thursday, Tunsil explained the impact he expects from newly hired head coach DeMeco Ryans, who played six seasons with the Texans from 2006-2011.

“I believe this organization is going to turn it around quickly,” Tunsil said. “This organization is on the rise, especially getting a guy like DeMeco Ryans in this building. He’s a young, energy guy, younger coach, and he was actually a player here too. Getting a guy like that coming into the building means a lot. We’re trying to get things turned around.”

The Texans acquired Tunsil in a trade with the Miami Dolphins in 2019. The former first-round draft pick has been the anchor of Houston's offensive line since.

He'll be protecting a rookie quarterback in 2023. Houston owns the No. 2 overall pick in the draft and will almost certainly spend it on a hopeful franchise quarterback during a rebuilding year.

And a quick rebuild, Tunsil thinks, at that.
