Look: 2 Notable Quarterbacks Named Options For Jets
The New York Jets are in a fascinating spot at quarterback heading into the offseason.
They haven't fully committed to any of the three quarterbacks on the roster (Zach Wilson, Mike White, and Joe Flacco) and could use an upgrade at the position.
If the Jets had better quarterback play this season, they could've made the playoffs since their defense was one of the best in the league.
It looks like they're already looking at other options for the position. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill, and impending free agent Baker Mayfield might be on their radar.'
"Jets coach Robert Saleh said this week they are committed to getting a veteran quarterback this offseason, priority No. 1," Rapoport said on Sunday, (first transcribed by 247Sports). "And my understanding is they're going to leave no stone unturned, exploring every option. That starts with Derek Carr, probably the first quarterback to get traded — just based on his mid-February deadline for his fully-guaranteed money. Some other options to consider: Ryan Tannehill, especially if he is released, Baker Mayfield, and a couple of other veteran quarterbacks this offseason."
Tannehill is under contract heading into next season but could be released if the Titans want to go in a different direction. He finished the 2022 season with 2,536 yards passing, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
Mayfield started the season with the Carolina Panthers before he was released in early December. He was then claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Rams and went on to play six games for them.
In those games, Mayfield threw for 850 yards and four touchdowns.
We'll have to see who the Jets decide to sign when free agency gets underway.
