NFL Week 4 picks: New York Jets-Pittsburgh Steelers predictions | Will Zach Wilson’s return help or hurt?

It feels as if it’s too early in the season to be talking about desperation. But as we head into Sunday’s matchup between the Jets and Steelers at Acrisure Stadium, desperate seems to be the operative word for both teams involved.

It will be time to ring the alarm bells for the Steelers if their offense continues to struggle under quarterback Mitch Trubisky and they lose their third straight game. The safety is already off the Jets’ panic button as they try to prove that their lone win of the season, a remarkable comeback against the Browns, was not a fluke.

This is probably going to be an ugly game as Zach Wilson makes his regular season debut after missing the first three games and most of training camp and the preseason with an injury. But no matter how it gets done, whichever team wins is going to be 2-2 with renewed hope. And whoever loses will be two games under .500 with an angry fan base to answer to.

Here are our picks for Week 4.

Andy Vasquez, Jets beat reporter: This is an important matchup between two teams desperate to get a win. The Jets struggle early, as Zach Wilson shakes off the rust. But Mitch Trubisky struggles all day against the Jets improved corners and Wilson leads a late rally to get the win.

PICK: Jets 17, Steelers 14.

Bob Brookover, Giants beat reporter: Jets fans finally get to see Zach Wilson play quarterback, albeit with a third-string left tackle. Steelers fans must continue to wait for the Kenny Pickett era to begin. This one could be painful to watch.

PICK: Steelers 20, Jets 13.

Darryl Slater, Giants beat reporter: We’ve already lost track of who is supposed to be collecting whose receipts. (And does Robert Saleh allow for store credit, by the way?) Anyway, the Jets actually stink (yet again), as everyone saw last week against the Bengals. The Jets should be 0-3. They only won in Cleveland at the Factory of Sadness because of the Browns’ general addiction to incompetence. The Steelers don’t have a great quarterback situation, but they’re going to win big here, as the heat on Saleh increases.

Chris Franklin, Eagles beat reporter: Even if Jets quarterback Zack Wilson does play, this game could still be sloppy. Mitchell Trubisky and the Steelers do just enough to beat the visiting Jets.

PICK: Steelers 17, Jets 10.

Les Bowen, Eagles columnist: Even with Mitch Trubisky quarterbacking, I’ll take the Steelers. Gonna need to see something from the Jets before I pick them to beat anyone again.
