NFL world pushes back on Terry Bradshaw’s comments

It’s been a tough start to the NFL season for the New Orleans Saints, who are 1-2 and have had a hard time getting anything going on offense when it matters.

While the Saints have scored 51 points so far this year, 38 of those points have come in the fourth quarter, and they’ve spent much of their games struggling to make anything happen on offense.

While a lot of the attention for that is being pushed on quarterback Jamies Winston, head coach Dennis Allen is standing behind his QB1 for now, especially as the quarterback is dealing with a “transverse fracture” and Winston is wearing four layers of protection and a custom backplate during games.

“We all have to play better,” Allen said. “I’m not looking to single anything out, obviously we’ve got to make some corrections and we’ve got to do a better job as a group.”

While he powers through the pain and tries to regain the kind of play that earned him the starting role last year, Winston is getting criticized in lots of NFL corners, including from Fox’s Terry Bradshaw.

“Be careful, you might lose your job to Andy Dalton,” Bradshaw said on Sunday, referring to the Saints’ backup quarterback.

A lot of Saints fans and others around the NFL world were quick to chastize Bradshaw, whom they view as being quick to criticize a Black quarterback instead of thinking critically about the larger situation and everything Winston is dealing with.

Right or wrong, Bradshaw has received backlash for comments about Black coaches and quarterbacks in the past, including Mike Tomlin, the Super Bowl-winning coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He’s also made some questionable comments about people with other backgrounds as well.
