As Brock Purdy continues his recovery from elbow surgery, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has a plan on how to handle the quarterback position.

Shanahan revealed that plan to the media at the Annual League Meetings in Arizona on Tuesday. He's aiming to have Trey Lance, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, split first-team reps with veteran free agent signing Sam Darnold.

Considering Lance has been viewed as a potential franchise QB and Darnold is simply a journeyman at this point in his career, San Francisco fans have decidedly mixed feelings on Shanahan's announcement.

They've been expressing those thoughts and feelings on social media this morning.

"As they should. It’s not about what’s fair. It’s about what’s best for the team. Let’s see what happens. #FTTB," one Niners fan said.

"This is why Sam Darnold took the job. Chance Purdy is not healthy by Week 1, he knows he will start. Smart man," a second Niners fan added.

"Leave it up to Niners to keep the QB s--t show. I get it about Brock he QB1. This love for Darnold is pretty nuts Lmao," said a third Niners fan.

"Are you kidding me?" a fourth Niners fan asked with exasperation.

"I’m already tired and we haven’t even gotten to the Draft," a fifth fan chimed in.

Lance began the 2022 season as San Francisco's starter before an injury ended his campaign.

Darnold, meanwhile, spent last year with the Carolina Panthers as a backup and spot starter.

The Niners are still hoping to have Purdy back in time to start the regular season.
