Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey has missed two straight practices this week with an injury. His status for Sunday's game is currently unclear.

Unfortunately, this has become a common trend for McCaffrey these last few years. He's become an injury-ridden NFL running back.

This is something new for Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield. He was almost always able to rely on Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt to stay healthy.

Mayfield told reporters this Thursday afternoon that McCaffrey is keeping the team "guessing" regarding his status for the weekend.

"Baker Mayfield says he doesn't have a sense whether Christian McCaffrey will play this week. 'He's gone zero dark thirty on us, keeping us guessing,'" said Mayfield, via Joe Person.

The harsh reality is the Panthers can't really rely on Christian McCaffrey anymore. Maybe he needs a fresh start before the trade deadline strikes.

Baker Mayfield will likely be without his star running back in the backfield on Sunday.
