Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts Make History as the First Black Starting Quarterbacks to Face Off During a Super Bowl
Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts will be the first two black quarters in Super Bowl history to go head-to-head.
On Sunday, Hurts sealed the deal with his victory against the San Franciso 49ers 31-7 in the NFC championship.
Mahomes led the Chiefs to a 23-30 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC championship despite a bad ankle.
In the history of all Super Bowls, there have never been two Black quarterbacks who squared off against each other.
Super Bowl LVII will mark the first time both teams will start Black quarterbacks, even though Black quarterbacks have started and won Super Bowls in the past.
When the dust settles from Super Bowl LVII, either Hurts will become the fourth Black quarterback to win a Super Bowl, or Mahomes will become the first Black starting quarterback to win multiple Super Bowls.
