People Can't Believe How Much Fans Are Bidding For Sand From Tom Brady's Retirement
Tom Brady announced his retirement from the NFL this week — "for good," he said in a heartfelt video posted to social media.
Brady filmed his no-frills announcement from the beach. Now, an intrepid entrepreneur has not only figured out the exact location, he or she is looking to cash in.
Someone is listing jars of sand from the spot at which Brady retired for sale on Ebay. According to reporter Joe Pompliano, one person has bid nearly $100,000 — with eight days still to go in the online auction. Several other listings for the same thing have garnered bids in excess of $10,000.
While Brady's fame speaks for itself, most on social media seem baffled that someone is willing to pay nearly six figures for a jar of sand. As several have pointed out, nothing is stopping people from traveling to the public beach and taking some sand for themselves.
"I mean, anyone could make this trip many times over and get their own," one Twitter user wrote.
"You could literally buy a flight there and get your own damn sand for a fraction of the price," posted another.
Another fan summed up the situation by writing, "I don't know if this is extremely impressive or extremely stupid."
Several social media users have noted that the winning bid doesn't necessarily have to pay up. But at this point, it wouldn't come as a shock if the seller finds at least a few takers for the jars of sand.
The buyers just better hope Brady doesn't un-retire again this offseason.
