Word broke Friday that Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon will need a minor surgery on his knee after suffering an injury Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens.

Now we know the cause and how long the issue will keep Mixon on the shelf:

The Bengals visit the Carolina Panthers in Week 3 on September 23, then visit the Atlanta Falcons in Week 4 on September 30. Mixon might be able to make the latter depending on when he undergoes the operation, though a likelier date is a Week 5 home game against the Miami Dolphins.

Mixon is an offensive centerpiece for the Bengals, so in the interim, the bulk of the workload will go to Giovani Bernard.
