Week 5 of the 2022 NFL season kicks off with a pivotal matchup between the Colts and Broncos on Thursday Night Football. Both teams have not lived up to their preseason expectations through the first four games but have a chance to right the ship on Thursday night. Despite the Colts' and Broncos' struggles -- and devastating injuries to RBs Javonte Williams and Jonathan Taylor -- this TNF contest has some interesting potential DFS picks, which should make putting together a FanDuel single-game lineup a fun challenge.

Before we break down our lineup and strategy, here are the notable scoring settings for FanDuel single-game contests: The point total for the "MVP" is multiplied by 1.5, but he doesn't cost any additional money like the "Captain" in DraftKings Showdown contests. FanDuel's default scoring is half-point PPR and four-point passing TDs, and there are no bonuses for 300-yard/100-yard games like on DraftKings.

FanDuel Single Game DFS Picks: Colts vs. Broncos Week 5 Thursday Night Football

$60,000 budget, need at least one player from each team

MVP (1.5x points): QB Russell Wilson, Broncos ($16,500)

Even though Wilson has not been the same quarterback that we saw over the past few seasons with Seattle, he's still worth starting at MVP in single-game contests. Wilson had his best fantasy football performance this season with 26.9 fantasy points against the Raiders in Week 4. It was a vast improvement from what he did in Week 3 against the 49ers (9.1 fantasy points). The Broncos are going to need a similar performance on Thursday night, as second-year running back Javonte Williams is out for the season with a knee injury. The Colts are ranked 10th against the pass this season and have given up seven passing touchdowns and 16.8 fantasy points per game to QBs. This isn't a great matchup, but Wilson still has plenty of upside.

FLEX RB Melvin Gordon III, Broncos ($12,500)

With Javonte Williams (knee) out for the rest of the season, the bulk of Denver's carries should go to Gordon.  He didn't do much in the Broncos' last game against the Raiders (eight rushing yards and -1.2 fantasy points); however, we've seen him be effective both in the running and passing games already this season. In Week 3 against the 49ers, Gordon had 55 total yards and a TD on 17 touches. He also had two fumbles in that contest. On the year, he has four fumbles in four games, which is why many think Mike Boone will eat into his touches. If Gordon can give the Broncos at least 60 yards of total offense and a touchdown, it will be a significant boost to your NFL DFS lineup.

WEEK 5 STANDARD RANKINGS:

QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | D/STs | Kickers

FLEX WR Jerry Jeudy, Broncos ($12,000)

The obvious choice here would've been Courtland Sutton, who has been the top receiving option for Wilson this season. However, we are going to save some salary and put Jeudy into our lineup. The young wideout scored his second touchdown of the season last week against the Raiders. He also had four receptions (five targets) for 53 yards. A lot of DFS players are going to use Sutton, who has scored in double-digits every week. However, Sutton will likely draw the assignment of Stephon Gilmore. Jeudy should soak up some of Javonte Williams' targets and could have another five-reception game with a possible touchdown.

WEEK 5 DFS LINEUPS: FanDuel | DraftKings

FLEX RB Nyheim Hines, Colts ($11,000)

With Jonathan Taylor out due to an ankle, Hines will be starting in the backfield on Thursday night. Hines has predominately been used as a pass catcher in the past, but he'll carry the ball more this week. The versatile running back has had at least five targets in three out of the first four games this season, so there's a built-in floor there. The matchup is tough, but Hines could easily lead Indianapolis in touches, so we want him in our lineup.

WEEK 5 PPR RANKINGS:

QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | D/STs | Kickers

FLEX WR Alec Pierce, Bills ($7,500)

The rookie wide receiver has played well over the past two games for the Colts since returning from a concussion. Pierce has seven receptions (11 targets) for 141 yards and is averaging 8.8 FanDuel points per game over that span. He will look to continue that consistency on Thursday night against the Broncos. The Broncos' main priority will be to slow down Michael Pittman Jr., meaning Pierce, Hines, and others will have opportunities to step up. The Broncos defense has only allowed one touchdown to wide receivers this season. However, with FD being half-PPR, Pierce could tack on points with short catches.
