Veteran football journalist and author Jim Trotter shared unfortunate professional news today on Twitter.

This week will be his last at NFL Media Group, Trotter said, as his contract would not be renewed. Trotter was characteristically classy in the face of this news, handling the setback with aplomb.

"I thank NFL Network and NFL.com for the lessons learned and affirmed over the last five years," Trotter said.

The widely respected journalist received well-wishes and encouraging messages from his colleagues.

"My respect and admiration for Jim is hard to describe. His courage and conviction are traits that never wavered and should be appreciated," Steve Wyche of the NFL Network tweeted.

To share platforms with him was a blessing. There is no doubt he will continue to impact lives and issues as he always has. Our loss."

ESPN's Field Yates echoed similar sentiments.

"Sorry to see this, Jim. I know it won’t be long until you land on your feet elsewhere."

Bruce Feldman of The Athletic sung Trotter's praises as well.

"Jim Trotter’s one of the wisest and best people I’ve ever worked with. For a long time he’s been the conscience of a league that often doesn’t have one. Some other company—and its staff—is going to be very fortunate to have him."
