KALAMAZOO, MI – Taahleak Lewis picked up his first college football scholarship offer before he played a snap of varsity football.

Three years later, the Kalamazoo Central star defensive lineman has picked his college football destination.

Lewis committed this week to the University of Findlay, an Ohio-based Division-II program that competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference alongside Michigan schools Northwood and Hillsdale.

The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Lewis follows in the footsteps of recent K-Central graduates Darius Pruitt (Ferris State), McKinley Underwood (Wayne State) and Aveyon Bullock (Grand Valley State) in continuing their football careers at the Division-II level.

His older brother, Cincear Lewis, also plays also plays college football at Cincinnati, where he’s coming off a redshirt freshman season for the 9-4 Bearcats.

The younger Lewis first attracted college football interest as a freshman, when Toledo offered a scholarship after checking out his highlight tape at the JV level.

Lewis earned honorable mention all-conference honors as a sophomore, but his junior season got derailed by a broken foot sustained in Week 1.

In his first full season of varsity competition in 2022, Lewis tallied 45 tackles, four stops for loss, three sacks and one pass deflection, which earned him a spot on the MLive/Kalamazoo Gazette Dream Team Defense and second team all-conference recognition.

He’ll join a Findlay team coming off a 7-4 season under head coach Kory Allen, who is heading into his second year atop the Oilers’ program.
