New details have surfaced regarding Stetson Bennett’s recent arrest. The report sheds more light into the happenings of that forgettable January night for the national title winning passer.

The Georgia signal caller was booked a few weeks after a championship performance in which he completed 18 of 25 attempts while throwing for 304 yards and a quartet of touchdowns. Bennett also ran for two more scores in what would be a 65-7 annihilation of the TCU Horned Frogs.

Unfortunately, Texas law enforcement was as kind to the quarterback as he was to the TCU defense.

On January 29th, reports surfaced that Stetson Bennett had been arrested in Dallas for public intoxication. This incident came exactly two weeks after the Bulldogs’ blowout win.

Officers responded to reports of a man banging on doors in the area, police said. When the officers arrived, they found Bennett “and determined he was intoxicated,” a police news release said…

Bennett, 25, was arrested and taken to a city detention center.

Many immediately began to wonder how it might affect his draft stock as makes his way out of Athens. This latest news could have teams questioning his decision-making abilities.

New details state that Stetson Bennett was hiding from police as he strolled aimlessly through a gated townhome community. He was observed “walking further back in the gated area to hide behind a brick wall by a random (apartment) in attempt to possibly avoid (the arresting officers) detection.”

Here’ more on the encounter as first reported by the Athens Banner-Herald.

According to the report, the officers announced themselves multiple times as Dallas police and called for Bennett to come from behind the wall with his hands visible. He complied and was placed in handcuffs due to Bennett attempting to hide from the officers.

Bennett identified himself and was unable to call his friend who police said he claimed lived at the location. He was unable to provide his friend’s address. Bennett did not have a cell phone on himself to call his friend, the report said.

The decision to hide from police seemed to be the motivating factor in the arrest, though his inability to provide a phone or address for his intended destination likely contributed.

The latest report comes as the NFL Draft quickly approaches. As of now, many consider Stetson Bennett to be either a Day 3 pick or to go undrafted. This arrest won’t help his outlook.
