The Buckeyes are listed amongst teams that 'must beat' their arch rivals in 2023

Even with the losses of multiple stars to the NFL this spring, the Ohio State Buckeyes are once again primed for a big season in 2023.

However, there is apparently one game that could more critical than the rest - and unsurprisingly, it is their November 25 matchup with the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor.

That's right, according to 247Sports, the 2023 edition of 'The Game' will once again likely have the biggest impact on their College Football Playoff and national title hopes.

Said 247:

It was apparent that this one would be on the list. Ohio State has been one of the best teams in the country these past two seasons but both campaigns have been marred by an inability to topple arch-rival Michigan. But that's putting it way too simply. Michigan has thumped the Buckeyes, winning 42-27 in 2021 and 45-23 in 2022. The results have been a mirror image of each other. This past season proved that Ohio State doesn't have to beat Michigan to make the College Football Playoff, but that doesn't matter to Buckeyes fans, who were still discouraged in late December despite a shot at Georgia on the horizon. Ryan Day needs to beat Jim Harbaugh in 2023. It's as simple as that.

The Buckeyes have shown their ability to deal with the Wolverines under head coach Ryan Day, winning in 2018 and 2019. They also won 15 of 16 matchups from 2004-2019.

However, in 2021 and 2022, the Wolverines had the upper hand, outscoring the Buckeyes 87-50 in those games.

For the Buckeyes to get back on top of the College Football world in 2023, their tilt with Michigan will once again play a pivotal role in the goals they have set.

And in Columbus, those goals are always national championship or bust.
