The Oregon State Beavers host the Washington State Cougars Friday night in the opener of a three-game college baseball series at Goss Stadium. It’s the Pac-12 Conference opener for both teams.

The 20th-ranked Beavers (11-3) are coming off a 3-1 victory over rival Oregon, which avoided a sweep of the three-game series. Before the series, Oregon State had won 10 games in a row.

Kevin Abel (1-2, 2.70 ERA) will start tonight for the Beavers, who have featured one of the nation’s best pitching staff’s over the first month of the season. Oregon State owns the seventh-best ERA (2.07) and WHIP (1.07), and has surrendered the third-fewest runs (2.3 per game) in the country.

Washington State (10-2), which did not play last week because of a coronavirus-related pause, beat the University of Portland 6-4 Wednesday in Portland, improving its road record to 8-1.
