Purdue Remains No. 1 in Latest AP Top 25 College Basketball Poll Despite Loss

Purdue retained the No. 1 spot atop the Associated Press Top 25 college basketball poll despite losing to rival Indiana 79-74 on the road. The Boilermakers, now 22-2 and 11-2 in the Big Ten, were among four teams receiving first-place votes.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue suffered its second loss of the season on Saturday against rival Indiana, a 79-74 defeat at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Despite falling on the road, the Boilermakers remained No. 1 in Monday's Associated Press Top 25 college basketball poll. 

Last week, Purdue was unanimously voted as the No. 1 men's team in the country. Now 22-2 overall and 11-2 in the Big Ten, Purdue received 38 first-place votes. No. 2 Houston (22), No. 3 Alabama (1) and No. 4 Arizona (1) also garnered votes for the nation's top spot. 

The Boilermakers are among three Big Ten schools ranked in this week's poll, with the recently-victorious Hoosiers moving up to No. 18. Rutgers also entered the AP Top 25, coming in at No. 24 after a win over Michigan State. Illinois, Maryland, Iowa and Northwestern also received votes. 

Purdue will be back at Mackey Arena on Thursday, Feb. 9, for a matchup with Iowa. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN2. The team closes the week on the road against Northwestern in Evanston, Ill.
