Coronavirus Fears Spark Removal Of AC Milan Players From Italy’s Algarve Cup Roster

The four AC Milan players that were originally summoned to play for Italy at the Algarve Cup, have now been taken off the roster.

This was confirmed earlier today by the FIGC.

The four Milan players are Linda Tucceri Cimini, Laura Fusetti, Valentina Bergamaschi, and Valentina Giacinti.

In addition to this, Inter Milan’s Stefania Tarenzi was also taken off the roster.

They were taken off the roster as a precautionary measure since they are based in Lombardy. Lombardy has been the region that has been the most affected by the coronavirus. As a result of this, they will not be playing for Italy during next month’s tournament.

Their replacements for the tournament are Agnese Bonfantini (AS Roma), Martina Lenzini (Sassuolo), Arianna Caruso (Juve) and Alice Tortelli (Fiorentina).

The potential removals from the national teams might also extend to Milan’s non-Italian players. Stine Hovland (Norway), Nora Heroum (Finland) and Maria Korenčiová (Slovakia) might also be recalled from their respective national teams, due to the fact that they play for Milan.

Berglind Björg Thorvaldsdottir has already been recalled from Iceland for this very reason.

This also comes in light of the two, previous match postponements for Milan in the league. It also coincides with the fact that the FIGC has officially confirmed that all six of Serie A’s matches this weekend, will be played behind closed doors.

The Milan Women won’t be back in action until the league resumes play on March 21st. They’ll take on Juventus then for that weekend’s Big Match.

The only good thing about this is the fact that they’ll be well-rested by then. Let’s hope that they’ll use that to their advantage.
