Champions League picks for Chelsea vs. Villarreal

Before you tune in to Wednesday's 2021 UEFA Super Cup matchup, you need to see the Chelsea vs. Villarreal picks from European soccer insider Martin Green. After working in the sports betting industry for several years, Green became a professional sports writer and handicapper and has covered the game worldwide. Since then, his European soccer picks have been spot-on. Green has generated over $36,000 for $100 bettors since the 2017-18 season, and he has his finger on the pulse of the game all over the globe.

For Wednesday's 2021 UEFA Super Cup matchup, Green is backing Chelsea to get the win at -143 and is taking it a step further by including Chelsea winning with a clean sheet (+163). The Blues conceded the second-fewest goals in the English Premier League last season, giving up just 36 in 38 matches.

A major reason for Chelsea's success was the sensational play of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. The 29-year-old recorded 16 clean sheets in 31 appearances in the Premier League and gave up just two goals in the Champions League knockout stages en route to the title.

"The Champions League winner has beaten the Europa League winner in seven of the last eight Super Cups," Green told SportsLine. "Chelsea performed heroics to win the Champions League last season... Its success was largely down to the strength of its defense, the intensity of its pressing and the phenomenal midfield performances of N'Golo Kante."
