MONACO - NOVEMBER 21: Timo Werner of RB Leipzig celebrates scoring his sides second goal during the UEFA Champions League group G match between AS Monaco and RB Leipzig at Stade Louis II on November 21, 2017 in Monaco, Monaco.

England got through a tough opener and now tries to cruise into the knockout stage when it hosts Scotland on Friday in a 2020 UEFA European Championship group-stage match. England had little trouble with 2018 World Cup finalist Croatia on Sunday, pulling off a 1-0 win that never seemed in doubt. England, ranked fourth in the world, is expected to have even less trouble with Scotland, but the oldest international rivalry in world football is usually a fierce battle. Scotland, ranked 44th in the world, suffered a 2-0 loss to the Czech Republic in Sunday's group opener.

Kickoff from London is set for 3 p.m. ET. England is the -320 favorite (risk $320 to win $100) in the latest Scotland vs. England odds from William Hill Sportsbook, and the over-under for total goals scored is 2.5. Scotland is listed at +950, while a draw would return +410. Before making any Scotland vs. England picks or make any Euro 2020 predictions, you have to see what European soccer insider Martin Green is saying.

Why you should back England

The Three Lions have won their last seven games by a combined 12-3 score and the team is a who's who of top English Premier League players. It all starts up front with Harry Kane, who dominated for Tottenham with 23 goals and 14 assists, both league highs. He gets quality feeds from a midfield that includes Aston Villa star Jack Grealish, Chelsea's Mason Mount, Kalvin Phillips of Leeds United and West Ham's Declan Rice.

Manager Gareth Southgate's biggest issue has been managing the talent and depth, but he has been making the right calls. He put Phillips and Rice out to shut down Croatia's vaunted midfield, and they did just that. Rice assisted on the goal by Raheem Sterling, also a solid choice by Southgate. The manager also has young Manchester City star Phil Foden and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who scored 16 goals for Everton, among many to choose from. A defense led by John Stones, Kyle Walker and Tyrone Mings has not allowed a goal in the past three games.

Why you should back Scotland

The Scots held England to a 2-2 draw in their last meeting in 2017 and are 41-48-25 in the all-time series dating back to 1872. They were unbeaten in the five games leading into the loss to Czech Republic, including 2-2 draws with the Netherlands and Austria. Striker Che Adams, who was born and grew up in England but has a Scottish grandmother, was convinced to play for the squad but was on the bench in the opener. He is expected to start Friday, and has two goals in five appearances with the Scottish team.

Lyndon Dykes, who had 12 goals for the Queens Park Rangers last season, and Ryan Christie, who has 25 over the past three seasons with Celtic, got the starts up front Sunday. Midfielder John McGinn is the top scorer with the national team in 2021 competitions with seven goals in 12 matches, while Christie has two, and 11 other players have scored once. The Scots are a tight-knit group, and Manager Steve Clarke has a knack for getting the most out of his teams. He now has Scotland in its first major tournament in 23 years.
