Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios is due to appear in court next month after allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend late last year, according to The Canberra Times.

Kyrgios, 27, has not yet been officially charged, but he has been summoned after he allegedly "grabbed" his former girlfriend in December.

"The nature of the allegation is serious, and Mr. Kyrgios takes the allegation very seriously," lawyer Jason Moffett, who is representing Kyrgios said in a statement, via CNN. "Given the matter is before the court ... he doesn't have a comment at this stage, but in the fullness of time, we'll issue a media release."

Kyrgios is set to face Cristian Garin in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon on Wednesday. He has never before reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam in his career..

Earlier in the tournament, Kyrgios received a $10,000 fine for spitting in the direction of a fan during a first round match. On Monday, Kyrgios received a $4,000 fine for cursing at the chair umpire during a four-set victory against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

On Monday, Kyrgios beat Brandon Nakashima in five sets to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the second time in his career.
