Central Standard Craft Distillery makes 'L' flag bourbon

A Milwaukee-based distillery is offering up an "L" flag bourbon ahead of the Brewers-Cubs series this weekend, and it's got quite the story behind it.

Over the past month, Central Standard Craft Distillery co-founders Evan Hughes and Pat McQuillan said they attempted to donate to the Chicago Cubs Charites in exchange for the “L” flag that flew over Wrigley following the Brew Crew’s historic #163 victory.

"They sell their W flags for about $500 each to benefit their charity," Hughes said.

"So, we thought offering them double and paying to replace their current L flag was a no-brainer opportunity to do some good, help a great cause and celebrate the rivalry between our two cities."

But, they say they received a resounding "no, not any amount" reply.

So, Central Standard made a donation to the Brewers Community Foundation instead and created their own replica "L" flag, which they say they'll also donate to the team come October.

To commemorate the Crew's epic run to last year’s Game #163 victory and the distillery’s unaccepted charitable offer, Hughes and McQuillan will unveil a limited-run of small-batch "L" Flag Bourbon.

The special bottling is available Thursday, only as supplies last at Central Standard's Union Room R&D Facility and Tasting Room, located on South 2nd Street.
